Heavy Metals

Lately we have been doing our Science fair in class. I enjoyed making the slides online. The thing I found tricky was seeing if there was dirt or copper on the metals.

Fizz,Foam and Froth

We are learning about chemical reactions. I enjoyed seeing the reaction after we set it off bubbling or fizzing. The thing I found challenging was writing the explanation.

Have you ever wondered what makes fizz, foam and froth ?

A physical change is reversible  but a chemical change irreversible. This is a physical change;
water can be changed into ice and then it can melt back into water.
For a chemical reaction, there is no turning back!
When you add vinegar and baking soda together you get a chemical reaction. It will start bubbling.
Why? Because the  vinegar changes the properties of the baking soda.

Making crystals

How long does a crystal take to grow?

How do crystals grow?

First we had some cups then we labelled the  cups. We used :

Epsom salts

Washing crystals

Non Crystals [Which were sprinkles]

Raw sugar

Rock salt

Then we put warm water in the cups and mixed until they dissolved.

Then you put them in a warm dry place so they could grow.

Profile

Hi my name is Jemima, I go to Saint Mary's School in Gisborne New Zealand. I'm in Year 6. I live with my parents and my little sister. My parents are from New Zealand.

At school I like doing art, P.E. and maths.  I'm really good at swinging around the bars on our school playground.  I really enjoy reading and at the moment I am reading the Ranger's Apprentice series.  This is my first year playing netball and I hope to get better at it during the season.

This year I am really looking forward to the Science Fair because we didn't do that at my other school and it is something new for me.
